I spent 20 days in China in 2002 and had a wonderful time.  My trip included a 4-day cruise on the Yangtze River and a visit to the "terra cotta soldiers." 

The tour guides we had were trained to extol the virtues of Chairman Mao and the first stop in every city was to the Communist Government Legislature buildings.  These events we learned to tune out. 

If you walk "The Wall," see if you can make it to the fourth tower (very strenuous activity).  I highly recommend such a trip for the world traveler.   -J-
